Greenhouse in a greenhouse! Heat mats under trays, Greenhouse in a greenhouse! Heat mats under trays, with rigid insulation under heat mats and along north wall. Small heater as back up. Three different circuits involved here as backup because we’ve had some nuisance tripping with the heat mats (hopefully fixed now). With nights in the single digits we will go to big measures to prevent turning on our greenhouse heaters!

We’re crossing our fingers that all the row cover on the farm is enough for our high tunnel greens to pull through. 3-4 layers on most everything. The next week is some of the most challenging we’ve experienced in December farming. Our farm crew hustled to harvest tons of greens this week (128 pounds of spinach! 400 bunches of kale!) and tuck everything in for the cold week ahead (photo 4-The Row Cover plan. Photo 3- The Row Cover). We’d love to see you at the farm Friday/Saturday! Free hot cider for all. 💫 Here’s what we’ll have:

Something to brighten tomorrow’s wintry forecast: Something to brighten tomorrow’s wintry forecast: our organic dahlia tubers go on sale on our online store TUESDAY AT NOON! Our tuber prices reflect the fact that you will need to store these on your own through winter (we don’t have the space!). We store our tubers with great success in pine shavings in plastic tubs with a loose fitting lid in a fairly dry cooler kept at 50-55 F. My parents store theirs with success in an unheated cellar that houses their furnace. Each tuber has an eye that will grow into a dahlia plant. The variety names are our very best guess (we’ve received almost all of these through trades) and the picture on our site is an actual photo of the bloom grown from the tuber. Tuber pickup will be *this* Friday 12-3 and Saturday 11-4 at the farm store. If you can’t make it then, go ahead and place an order, just email farmer@small-farm.com to arrange an alternative pickup time. Online store link in our bio, or: small-farm.square.site
6 days til our dahlia tubers go on sale! We have 1 6 days til our dahlia tubers go on sale! We have 18 varieties to offer this year, from Diva to Sierra Glow to Bride to Be. Mark the calendar, online sales will open December 2. Dahlia tuber pick up is December 5 and 6 at the farm store.
